You'll be reading everyday, but on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday respond to the standard prompts (more about these below) for your day's reading. [These days might change depending on when your Mom schedules your tutoring this summer.]
You'll also be practicing your typing each day, except Saturdays. Make sure to play a variety of games during the week so you're challenged in different ways. On Saturdays, you'll do your weekly 60-second typing test. The links for the typing games and typing test websites are on the right side of our blog.
Okay, so here are the standard prompts for Ender's Game to which you'll respond on M-W-F. Make sure to write strong, sixth-grader sentences. :)
- List four (or more) things that happened in your day's reading.
- This can include events or important things we learn about the main characters' personalities, thoughts, or feelings.
- Imagine you're Ender, what do you think he/you is feeling right now in the story. Why?
- Ender took off for Battle School in a space ship in zero-gravity with Colonel Graf and a few other kids.
- Colonel Graf embarrassed Ender in front of everyone else by saying lots of nice things about him, which made the others jealous of him.
- The other kids started teasing him for being a "teacher's pet," and Ender reacted by throwing one of the kids across the space ship.
- Ender felt terrible about doing it because he doesn't like fighting.
- Colonel Graf thinks that Ender might be a great general in the future and can save humanity from the buggers, but he doesn't tell Ender.
- I think Ender is feeling very confused because he's being forced to be aggressive. He doesn't like being that way because it reminds him of his brother, Peter, who was mean and hurtful to Ender. Ender is probably scared about the whole situation, but he's trying not to look scared so others won't pick on him.
